Description
This is a scarce early hand blown glass hat toothpick holder or open salt container that was made from an icicle pattern shot glass mold in the 1860s or 1870s. Hand blown with ground pontil on bottom.....ribbed icicle pattern around base....wide rolled over hat brim....1 1/2"tall x 3 1/8"long....Excellent shiny nice condition with no chips or damage. A nice clean item with no haze. Back in the 1800s many skilled glassblowers working in a glasshouse would often make "whimseys" like this using shot glass or bottle molds. They were used to hold toothpicks and matches, or on the kitchen table as open salt dips....
