    Description

    A Walt Disney Silly Symphonies Cartoon . . .
    "
    Wynken, Blynken and Nod
    " (1938)
Very Rare Full Size Original Production Cel
“Wynken, Blynken and Nod” is a 1938 Disney Silly Symphonies cartoon, adapted from Eugene Field's poem of the same name. Graham Heid directed this 1938 Walt Disney cartoon and RKO Radio Pictures distributed it. Many consider the high quality of production artwork in "Wynken, Blynken and Nod" to be among the finest of all used by Disney in his Silly Symphonies cartoons.
This production cel appears in the original 1938 “Wynken, Blyken and Nod,” at 6:45 minutes of the 8:52 minute cartoon. It was shown while the Winds were blowing the boat around among the clouds. The cel includes Disney's old cliché of an unbuttoned pajama bottom exposing a "tush" that he used in several cartoons of the period.
The cel is a full-size hand-painted 9¾ x 12 inch production cel, with part of it showing through the 8 x 10½ inch matte opening of the framed artwork. The boy's image is a good 4 x 5 inches with the rest of the painting of the cel extending both horizontally and vertically beyond the 8 x 10½ inch matte opening. The full size of the matte is 11 x 14 inches. This cel is in its original size as used in the production. It is not one of the extensively trimmed down Courvoisier cels that were cut up 80 years ago to fit a small picture frame. Those Courvoisier cels were often placed on specially hand-painted backgrounds to
    simulate
the background but which were not used in the actual production of the cartoon.  Our cel may not look pretty like a trimmed Courvoisier cel, but it is an extremely rare example of a complete Walt Disney production cel artwork pre-World War II. This cel is the real deal - - in the original size as it was actually used in the filming of the cartoon. The non-matching watercolor background is of unknown origin, but from the period of the production of the cel.
We obtained this production artwork years ago in the frame shown in the scans and put it away untouched. Our recent examination of the construction of the frame and other material used to back the artwork, indicates that the cel and background were apparently first assembled together in the frame before World War II. We are providing scans, but please note that the “white” patches appearing in some of those scans are merely reflections from our scanner and are not on the artwork. [Such “white” patches are particularly noticeable in the scan of the full frame shot where both the frame glass and cel interacted with the light from the scanner.] We have also provided scans of both sides of the cel with light shining through and on a black background. This is an old cel in the original condition we received it in and is sold "as is."

    DOMESTIC SHIPPING
: We ship domestically (within the United States and to APO's and FPO's) by U.S. Postal Service with USPS Tracking by the close of the next postal business day from payment. Our shipping costs include full value insurance.
    INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
: We only ship with full value insurance. The post office no longer accepts "merchandise" for international Registered Mail services. Also, the value of this lot exceeds the maximum value of items that can now be sent internationally by Priority Mail (flat rate or otherwise). To be fully insured in the international mails, the only Postal Service option now is "Global Express Guaranteed," the cost of which is extremely high compared to the prior services that used to available through the post office. Further, with the global pandemic, "Global Express Guaranteed" service is being intermittently suspended on and off between various countries. That means that shipping times may be greatly extended. Though our practice is to mail by the close of the next postal business day from payment, in those instances where the post office is temporarily not accepting "Global Express Guaranteed" packages to your specific country, we will hold shipment and mail as soon as service is restored.
    NOTICE
: Since insurance covers only the goods but not the costs of shipping them, the buyer agrees that once we have proof of delivery of the package to the post office, that if it is lost in the mails and not delivered or is damaged in shipping that the refund is limited to only the purchase price and any sales tax (if applicable) and does not include a refund of the shipping. For international buyers, we label our customs tags as "merchandise" and you are responsible for all customs, duties or other import fees into your country.
