    Description

Offered for sale is a wonderful antique free-blown glass fly trap manufactured during the early to mid 1800s.  The fly trap has three applied feet and an applied neck ring with a concave base that is open in the center.  Inside the bottle the glass walls of the base extend upward creating a trench around the sides of the bottle where a sugary liquid would be placed to entice a fly.  Once the fly crawls under the bottle and flies up into the bottle it cannot escape due to the stopper or cork that plugs the top opening and the steep walls of the concave bottom.  Pretty ingenious design!!  The bottle has a tapered form and it stands about 6 3/8" tall while measuring about 5 1/2" in diameter.
The overall condition of the bottle is excellent.  There are no chips, cracks, or damaged areas to note.  The clarity of the glass is excellent with no cloudiness.  The top finish is rough as you might expect and the applied feet and neck ring look great.  I have included a stopper with this bottle, but it is not original.  The original stopper would have also been blown.  You can expect to find the standard imperfections associated with older glass to include air bubbles, inclusions, bits of ash, etc.  I have several of these available if interested, so please be sure to check out my other listings!
