.
The Dzi which one can translate by “brilliantly polished”, “luminous” are pearls in agate of elongated shape having on their surfaces a decoration of various and varied geometric shapes, but each having a very precise meaning.
Their origins are quite diverse, because for some they are shaped by man, and for others they are a present from the kingdom of the gods.
There are many myths and legends around Dzi.
The most common is that they are not of terrestrial origin, but that they were "sown" on earth by the gods so that whoever finds them, have better karma.
Dzi were found in Tibet, on very old sites dating from 4500 years, that is to say well before the arrival of Buddhism, in full period of Bön shamanism.
Therefore they are considered as powerful and rare amulet.
We can see adorn statues in temples, around the necks of Tibetans, and even wear by Lamas or Rinpots.
Dzi are believed to bring good fortune, ward off evil spirits, and protect the wearer from danger and accident, and even bring longevity and good health.
There are 3 main families of Dzi:
Natural Dzi.
They have different colors, but their designs are in fact the grain of stone.
The oldest would actually have designs emerging from the center of the stone. This would be the original Dzi, and therefore, extremely rare!
Dzi manufactured.
The stone remains agate, and the designs on its surface are made by human hands, but according to a secret technique.
False Dzi, or Nalo-Dzi.
They are terracotta, enameled or even plastic.
There we move away from esotericism to enter the world of costume jewelry.
