Amehata Maishi is a very hard slate of high quality, and inkstones made from it are said to be very durable and produce excellent ink colors.
This inkstone is made of thick natural stone weighing over 1.2 kg, so it is unique in the world. The entire process of carving, polishing, and finishing is done by hand and takes several days.
The characteristic stone pattern of the Amehata Maseki inkstone is beautifully expressed on the entire inkstone shade, as well as on the diagonally flowing waves from the sea to the hills.
The inside of the rim is sharply finished so that it looks as if it could be cut by tracing the inside of the rim with the tip of the finger.
A few small blade marks can be seen at the sea.
The sea is deep enough to hold ink, so please use it to its fullest.
The inkstone has been neatly dug down in the middle to form an oval shape, and is signed Amehata Shinseki Zuiken Zuiken on the inkstone.
[According to the Inkstone Shoan Price List for Amebata Shinseki inkstones, a similar piece sells for about 50,000 yen.
Please also note that this inkstone comes with a wooden lid.
