    QUEEN'S BEAST RED DRAGON OF WALES 2017 GREAT BRITAIN 2oz NGC MS 69
    When the coronation ceremony was held for the Queen in 1953, ten statues were created to demonstrate and celebrate the heraldic legacy of the British monarchy. The Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts series is inspired by those heraldic symbols. This release honors the Red Dragon of Wales, an emblem introduced to the throne by the House of Tudor.

    Magnificently Detailed Heraldic Imagery
    Obverse: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse, encircled by the inscription "ELIZABETH II," "D.G. REG. F.D." and "5 POUNDS."
    Reverse: The reverse features a winged Red Dragon grasping a shield ornamented with four leopards, a heraldic image representing the arms of 13th century Welsh prince Llewelyn ap Griffith, the last native prince of Wales. Inscribed "RED DRAGON OF WALES," "2 OZ FINE SILVER," "999.9" and "2017." Obverse and reverse designs were crafted by Jody Clark, the youngest artist to create a definitive coinage portrait of the Queen. Mr. Clark has been a Royal Mint sculptor since 2012.
